So my laptop has been taking a crap lately. First the power supply broke and had to get a new one and now the battery is down to 30-40 minutes. I bought a 9 cell battery off ebay and just got it in. I plugged it in and the laptop says "Battery not recognized, will not charge." :( Whats up with it? Is there a way to get it charging? I don't have the money to buy the $200 battery from Dell.

ok, just to get this clear: you bought a non-Dell, no-name-brand battery with different specs off ebay, and are now surprised it doesn't work?

    PS: no warranty?

Yeah, third party batteries are generally a bad thing. It is a good thing that your laptop refuses to work with it.

There is no way to get it to work? I'm fairly certain that it has the same specs.

it's a 9-cell, and the standard 6400 battery is 6-cell. ergo, the specs aren't the same (unless of course you had a 9cell battery from the start, not that this would make any difference).

at any rate, just go with aan310's advice and return the ebay battery.

Where should I get a battery from then? I don't have $200 to spend on a battery from Dell.

My original battery (from Dell) is a 9 cell.

haha, so I'm shipping back the battery tomorrow. What is a good site, and still relatively cheap, that I can get a 9 cell battery from?
