Hi Just got one of these things I Looked around reading about upgrading the ram to 4 gb after all the reading I was still unsure so I decided to try it.
popped in the ram 2X2gb sticks 667 waited the what seemed like 5 minutes sald ok and 4 gb ram installed and running perfect.

I have windows 7 ult shows 4gb less the 600 and change reserved for system leaving 3.3 gb free.
I have the latest bios A17
for those who want to do it, try it I just went in to one of the smaller shops.
Told them what I wanted said if it works I'll buy it, saved me the expence of trial if it didn't work

What GPU do you have? The Inspiron E1505/6400 comes with either GMA 950 graphics or X1300/X1400 or 7300 Go GPU. The GMA will eat up RAM as it does not have it's own discreet memory.

And it is readily known 945GM/945PM will take 4 GB RAM.

you won't have access to all 4 gigs of ram with the 945gm/945pm chipset, large chunks of memory above 3 gigs will be reserved for hardwares. This is a known issue with that class of intel chipset. This is also why many manufacturers/company claim that only 3 gigs of ram are usable.

3.3 gigs is already pretty good.
