Hi, with the core 2 duo being a 64 bit-capable processor, has anyone tried to set up a e1505/6400 with core 2 duo with a 64 bit OS such as Vista64 or Ubuntu 64. I am thinking of making this a dual boot system with Vista 32 bits and Ubuntu 64 bits. Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks,

    GL

Yes, I'm sure people have tried Vista 64, as have I. As of right now, I wouldn't recommend it as it is slower than 32bit Vista and XP. This is because there are very few drivers out there, and very little support. At the same time, there are limited amount of 64bit software that could actually take advantage of the 64bit system and cpu. So untill those come out, 64bit Vista is just a slow emulation of 32bit software. Nothing to get excited about.

Check back in a couple months when software and drivers get a chance to mature, then u'll get the full (or better) experience out of the 64bit goodness.

Dunno anything about ubuntu, so maybe someone else can chime in.

64 bit computing is pretty much useless for the everyday average user, and thats really not about to change anytime in the imediate future, the only reason one might really want to consider running a 64 bit OS right now would be if they were running more than 4GB ram, the E1505 tops out at 2GB.
