    My main concern would be how well they do on gaming vs. size. If the 600m could do alright on games I think I'd rather go with something a little smaller, but otherwise the 8600 looks like it can't go wrong other than size. What stats are people able to get on the 600m with the 64 meg vid card? FPS on games or aquamark ratings? Is the 8600 too big to take to classes and put on a desk in a classroom in your opinion?

    If your going to do a lot of gaming I would get the 8600, and plus; it still is pretty thin. The 600m has a 64MB of VRAM but the internal core processor is aging and would/could not compete with the 8600's 128MB Radeon PRO TURBO. Plus you get a wide screen~! [8D][ :D]

    Windows - The operating system that runs the world.

    Toshiba - Quality, price, and features!

    I think the 8600's ATI 9600 video card will allow you to play newer games better than the 600m's ATI 9000.

    The 8600 is about 7 lbs, which is pretty good for a desktop replacement, but I wouldn't want to carry it around for a long period of time.

    i have a 600m. it can play games decently. i have call of duty going at 1024x768, not full detail, but it still looks good. aquamark score is around 20000. 3dmark01 is 7000. i can play farcry, but not too well, lower detail setting at 800x600. but the lowered game performance is much better to have than a really huge notebook like the 8600, IMO. that thing would be a pain to lug around. 600m is nice and small, not too small but still pretty light. i don't have trouble taking it around.

    I think the laptop that gets the best of both worlds is the sager 3790. Check it at www.pctorque.com (a sager reseller). If you pay the extra money for the extended battery, you get similar life to the 8600.
    It is about 5 pounds and has a 128mb radeon 9700, with a pentium m.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    My i8600 came a yesterday. I think the video card drivers dell has installed are really decreasing it's potential. I'm thinking of installing the omega drivers instead. Its great for games, and the 1920x1200 screen is beatiful in my opinion. It plays Half life 2, but I think either because I have it it widescreen (does that lower gaming performance?) or the dell video drivers it doesn't run very well. I have it on the lowest resolution for a 16:10 screen, 720 by 480 with everything on the lowet possible setting... and it still lags when i throw something or shoot! which seems absurd to me with a 9600 PRO...

    Every other game I have thrown at it runs great, WC3 (not really a demanding game, but in a tower defense/ wars map theres a bunch of sprites on screen and it lags low end systems, not at all here) CS, DOD, Farcry, painkiller, BF1942 and call of duty....

    I also got a score of 1:57 when calculating the first two million digits of pi. It runs very good imo considering I dont have the fastest processor or a lot of ram (1.6 ghz, and two 256mb sticks) and a 4200 rpm HD, which doesn't raise load times as much as i thought it would. Im planning on waiting for the hitachi 60gb 7200 rpm one to drop in price to less than $100 (its $143 last time i checked newegg.com) to upgrade
