I noticed on my 6000D WSXGA screen which I have set to the highest resolution when viewing for example web pages, the icons and some thumbnail and small pics look a bit distorted and not clear meanwhile when I insert my SD card and view pics from my digital camera, they look very sharp and clear. Another example is if I go to Dell.com and view the notebooks the pics of the notebooks don't look clear and they look a bit pixilated and distorted and so does some of the type but other type looks ok. Does anyone else have this problem or notice this?

this will fix your problem, I also had the same issue:

    1. Click on Start | Run.
    2. Type in regedit and click OK (or hit Enter).
    3. Once in the Registry Editor, click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER | SOFTWARE | MICROSOFT | INTERNET EXPLORER | MAIN in the left hand pane.
    4. In the right hand pane look for the key named USEHR. The setting for this key is normally 1 (00000001). Change the value for this key to 0, effectively turning it off.
    5. Close the Registry Editor

then everything will be much clearer in ie

    thanks

Great thanks. I will try that when I get home. You mentioned Internet explorer if I use another browser like Firefox will this clear up this issue?

    Thanks again

This is because Dell is shipping the high res displays set to 120dpi instead of 96dpi which is normal. Check your display properties and look for the DPI setting. Change it to the normal setting and your problem will go away.

I just had to drop a note of thanks to everyone that replied to this thread. Your simple solutions made my day!!! Even though it may have seemed like an easy fix to you, the screen resolution issues we were having with our new Inspiron 6000 laptops were driving us crazy. We could not imagine that a $2000 laptop would display images so fuzzy in Internet Explorer and would mess up the various fonts that were used by programs such as Macromedia Fireworks and others.

In fact, I was going to call DELL tomorrow and ship back all three of our news I6000s. I had called DELL support on Monday and after going through 6 different people, I finally hung up after being put on hold for 10 minutes. Needless to say, I was pretty ticked off.

But I knew that this had to be a setting somewhere that could be changed. I Googled my question, found notebookreview.com and within about 5 minutes I had found this post. Hallelujah!!!

Now it is like having a new computer all over again!!!

Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with others! Happy Easter Everyone!

Someone needs to pass this information along to DELL!!!

Yea tell me about it. Dell's tec support is as good as useless. A total waste of time. I was on the phone with tec support last week and waited about 90 min to speak with some unknowledgable idiot from India that after asking why my DVD burner drive would only write at 8X for Cd'rs actually told me my computer that came with a DVD burner drive, was only capable of burning DVD's and not Cd R's or Cd RW's I even navigated them to the Dell home page to the configuration under "help me choose" for a DVD, CDR/rw or DVD R/rw and the stupid fool still insited that my drive could not burn CD r's I was seething with anger and yelled at the guy! [ :(!][ :(!] I figured it out it turned out that my Cdr's I was using even though said could burn at 48X only would burn at 8X max on this drive meanwhile on my home computer the same batch of Cd r's can burn at 32x. I guess it goes to show that DELL stands for

I talked to this guy at Dell about my i6000 display problem about a month ago. He proudly said, "There should be no problem with it. This notebook has the latest technology, LCD. That stands for liquid PLASMA display." I had to laugh.

That said, I'm fairly satisfied with the service I'm getting now, maybe because I purchased my new Inspiron (another 6000) through Employee Purchase Program. I've so far called the tech support a couple of times, and I was able to talk to techs in the U.S. who were knowledgeable & helpful. They even called me back in a couple of days to make sure my computer was doing OK. I didn't have to wait for a long time for someone to answer when I called. Maybe 5 minutes.

As far as the display problem, I changed the registry setting for the display to "0" and the problem went away.
