I reformatted my 6000 to get rid of the additional "junk", but am having problems getting the dvd viewing software and the burning software working correctly.

I was able to get the Sonic Digitalmedia 7 LE and Mydvd software from dell and installed it, but it doesn't do much. Can't view dvd's in it (sonic) or through windows media. In windows media it says I need a special decoder, where can I get this? The sonic stuff doesn't seem very good, all they want you to do is buy the better version every time you try to do something.

What else do I need to install?

You should be viewing your DVDs in Cyberlink Powerdvd. Sonic MyRecord is for burning.

Did you install Cyberlink PowerDVD. It should be on a separate CD from Sonic.

It doesn't look like I got that one. It is so hard for them to send out the right cd's. I have called twice and each time they say they will send everything and I only get part of what I need.

If you don't want to call them again, you could use free software. All you need to get is a dvd decoder and playback software if you don't like Windows Media Player. We've had a few threads about different DVD software, but i can't remember where they are exactly.

CDBurnerXP is free and works well for the basics.
