Is it worth spending the $100 to upgrade from the 6 cell to the 9 cell battery. Ill be using the laptop sometimes on the road, how much more time will the 9 cell give you? (for internet surfing, etc...)

sometimes less is more, except in laptop battery life in which case more is more.
-
i don't konw what system you're looking at, but when i bought my 6000, it was 99 to upgrade to a 9 cel batt and 129 for an additional 9 cel battery.
the math therefore works like this... 99 bux to get a total of 9 cels or 129 bux to get a total of (6 + 9 =) 15 cels. no brainer.
the 9 cel will give you 50% more than a 6 cel; for me, that translates to about 6 hours at half screen brightness and wifi off. -
it also depends on what kind of laptop you have. With the 9300, I got around 2 1/2 hours with a 6 cell. A 9 cell is around 5 hours.

wow, ..5 hours? thats not bad!

You can also find the battery you are looking for on Ebay for about 75 - 80 bucks shipped. I purchased one for the XPS-M170 and it is a DELL battery.. Works great!
-
You might also try online vendors. I got mine from a website that sold batteries for laptops. It came quicker since dell had the 9 cell on a 2 week backlog, and was cheaper.
I haven't checked Dell's prices lately, but a few months ago, there was only a 50 dollar difference in price between the 6 cell and 9 cell, so several users would buy a 6 cell and a 9 cell when they placed their order.

any on-line vendors that you can recommend? -
External or within Dell you mean? I would go with Dell only for components like the extra battery. Just avoid warranty and compatibility issues that way.
-
Order wiht the 6 cell and add an additional 9 cell battery, that way you get both for about 129 so for thirty extra bucks you can have BOTH batteries!! -

For those of you looking to buy an aftermarket battery, be very careful about used and unknown companies, their products can be defective and rather dangerous.
I have noticed that on the Dell site, the inspiron batteries cost ALOT more than the Latitude batteries, in the case of the 9 cell for the 9300 for example, they are the same battery with the same voltage etc and size, so you could buy a latitude battery and save fifty bucks give or take? Check it out see for yourself. -
I was wondering the same question. What to get with the Dell E1505. it comes with 6-cell primary and an upgrade of $49 to a 9-cell
for a 9 cell primary with an additional 9 cell it's $128 (so technically $79 for the extra 9-cell battery) i don't see the purpose though because I was told that there are no external chargers to charge the extra battery (like you would for a camera) and that it has to be in the laptop in order to charge it.
THe whole point of getting 2 batteries would be if you're out (and have nowhere to plug it in) and your battery dies, you can throw the other one in - but that defeats the purpose if it's not charged).
Is that the only way to charge the extra battery, by putting it in the laptop (say when you're not using it) to charge it overnight that way it's charged when the other dies and you can switch right away??? I don't know.
#2 I'm very short with money so I'm trying to save here but am I doing something good by atleast paying $50 to upgrade to the 9-cell (or is there NOT much of a difference)? -
crap i just lost the last reply i made....to make it short & sweet... additional batteries are awesome because like my digital camera I have an additional battery and while I'm using one the additional one is in the wall charging so if it dies you can switch it up quick.
BUT i was told with a laptop battery you can't do that because it can only be charged if it's in the laptop....is this correct?
and if so, what's the point of an extra battery? -
its the same deal, just a little more troublesome to charge them.
At Home:
1.Charge 1st battery,
2.Charge 2nd battery
Out and about:
1.Use First battery
2.Used Second battery
Is it really worth your money to buy a separate charger even if it were to become available? Just charge it at home overnight or something.
And something to note if its not already known, batteries should never be plugged in when the laptop is on with the AC. -

Ok, but does the 9 cell battery stick out, or is it just the same size but more capacity?
Thanks -
yes it sticks out in the new inspirons

Or you can just go to metacafe and search up the DIY battery.
