I know there's a topic on the first page asking about the battery, but it's a different question.
I'm planning to buy either Inspiron or Studio, they are pretty similar price and spec wise.
I want to get a 9 cell battery, but from what I heard/read, it sticks out/protrudes from the laptop, making it what I would find quite unpleasant.
I'm planning to get a 14 or 15 inch, if that has any influence on the answer. (i'm assuming it does, since a smaller laptop would have more chance to have the battery stick out, cause it's smaller, and can't contain the battery within the unit)
If it does stick out (which I pray to God doesn't), how much does it stick out?
Any pictures, videos?
Thanks in advance.

I have the 6 cell and 9 cell for my Studio 15. The 9 cell sticks out of the bottom at the back by about half an inch. It's still quite comfortable to use on my lap, and it still fits into my backpack quite nicely. And on a flat surface like a desk, it angles the keyboard rather nicely. On Power Saver mode, I can get just shy of 6 hours of life out of it.
The 6 is perfectly flush with the frame, but doesn't give me that nice keyboard angle on a desk, and only lasts about 2:30 hours. I'll get some pics tomorrow when there's light.
You might like the Studio 14z; it has options for a 6 cell or 8 cell, and the 8 cell does not stick out in any way; it is physically identical to the 6 cell. -

i have the 9 cell battery and its alright. when i first ordered it i didnt know it would protrude as much as it does but its fine for me. it does hurt sometimes when i use it on my lap though. and like mastershroom said, it does angle the laptop nicely on a flat surface.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
From that picture, it really does look like just a slight inclination like a keyboard's back suspenders. and the better airflow/ventilation is a good point.
Can you perhaps take a picture abit more zoomed out? So i can see the battery and laptop as a whole.

I would consider a Studio 14z, but it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive.

p.s. I'm also considering an Inspiron, as mentioned in my first post. Maybe that one won't have the protruding/sticking-out battery. Even then, I might get Studio cause I like the design, and at first glance the sticking-out part doesn't seem that bad. -

^ Thank you very much for the pictures.
Now I just need to know if the Inspiron 9 cell also sticks out, so I can factor in everything, and think it through thoroughly.
again, thanks for the replies. very appreciated. -
The Inspiron 1545 9 cell sticks out the back while on the Studio 1555 it sticks out the bottom. I have 4, 6, and 9 cell batteries for the Inspiron but only a 6 cell for the Studio. I can get about 3 hours on the Inspiron if I try. I originally thought I needed a 9 cell because I wanted all that capacity but I really don't. The 9 cell lasts forever.

and also, thanks again for everyone who replied. helped me alot. -
Why can't Dell have technology like Apple, all these round cells we need some smart Lithium battery technology.
