    So I got a dell 1720 with a 8600MGT blah blah blah..

Refresh rate is stuck at 59Hertz.. so BF2 cant be played and its just lame..

Anyone know how to fix? Work around? is this a defect? standard? common?
    Is dell fixing it?

    Whats the deal?

I've been hearing some similar rants...I think they were in the HP forum though. Speculation was that the game checks for a 60Hz monitor (which is stupid) and fails based on that.

I just got a Acer 24" LCD and it defaulted to 59hrz, but I changed it to 60 hrz in the Nvidia control panel, I assume you are saying you can't do that. What's up with the 59 hrz setting? I thought 60 was standard for lcds.

Yea theres no option to put it up to 60 Hertz... theres no "show unsupported refresh rates" thing either...

    What the duece?

Vista btw... but not a Vista issue I think, because it was working a few days ago, then had the LCD replaced and the GFX card replaced and now this issue... (The GFX cant be it though, its running better than ever.. Highest 3dmark scores I have ever gotten with it)

Do something for me - in device manager, check to see if the monitor shows up as "generic pnp monitor". Post here exactly what it says.

    Thanks....

I appreciate you finding that for me...

However that does not resolve the issue,
I have tried re-installing and tweaking the video.con files in every way possible. the problem is BF2 doesnt support 59Hertz refresh rate at all..

So there-in lies my dilema, I need to find a way to fix my Refresh Rate so its back to 60Hertz.

update: tried power strip... was very foreign to me I admit, but I saw no where that I could update it to 60htz.

interestinly in Powerstrip, there was something telling me that my generic pnp monitor was... well im not sure, but it mentioned it, not in a good way.. also some of the resolutions were strange... at first it put the max res. at 1600x1200 or something, not the correct 1900x1200

So im fairly convinced now it has something do with this Generic PnP Monitor being recognized as the main monitor... The driver version for this under Device manager is some random string from Windows... where as the driver for the "Default Monitor" is my nvidia driver 169.01.

Anyone know how to change my computer to pick up and recognize the other the correct one instead of this dumb Generic PnP Monitor.

Bump... Still looking for a resolution.

Dell replaced my screen again today... same problem is still present. Refresh Rate locked at 59 hetz.

    help me please.

    Anyone? Updates? advice? ect.

Yeah i saw my 20" LCD switch a few times to 59 as well, but I have the option to switch back. But I have also noticed more probs involing S-video+new drivers(thinking 169.21-not sure exzact #)+ left battery to die = laptop display defaulting to the res just lower then 1400X900, blah blah Tried everything, ill have to reinstall OS(image) , just quicker.

I was having the same problem with my 1280x800 Inspiron 1520 monitor, only 63 Hz instead of 59 Hz, and everyone kept saying I was making it up or trying to be silly. My display settings look just like yours: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s193/Quintillus/63Hz.png

However, it only affects mine with the 169.02 drivers. When I tried 156.55, it went back to 60 Hz. Perhaps 169.01 changes it to 59 Hz. Try a non-169 driver and see if that helps.

Yea or try one of the newer 169.xx drivers like 169.09. I've had that one work fine.
