Ok, I cancelled my old order today and placed a new one (with a much better deal) and I noticed that I accidently got the 5400 RPM hard drive now instead of the 7200 RPM. Is the difference enough to go back and change it yet again? I need help deciding becuase I've been through so much crap with delays and what not that I'm hesitant to redo things yet again. So is the 7200 RPM hard drive worth it over the 5400?

Any kind of media editing (ie: sound/music/video) demands a highspeed drive. Other than that, it's a matter of what matters to you.... saving money, or faster load times in games and other apps.

imo no.. but some will say yes.. you will see minimal gains with it if any most will depend on if the program has to access the drive much.. i got everything top line and still left the 5400 one.. i have 2 home computers with all out hardware cooles with water etc... i did not notice any difference at all to be honest with gaming.. maybe with editing or heavy cad work etc..

load times will be better but only significantly so if you're doing heavy photo/video editing. you'll notice small gains in loading times in games and such bet not a huge increase. you'll get better battery life w/5400 though. but again, not much.

HDD is the major bottleneck of a notebook but I think Dell is still using 1st gen 7200rpm from Hitachi and I didn't notice any significant performance increase over the Toshiba 5400rpm.

Alright, thanks a lot everyone for the opinions. I think I'm just going to leave it at the 5400RPM since I don't plan on doing any media editing. I do plan on gaming, but load times aren't that big of a deal to me.
5400 RPM vs 7200 RPM?
