The faster stick just works at 533 mhz but it works.

The E1405 supports 667. The reason they give you the choice is because when it first came out 667 was alot more expensive than the 533.

If you take out the original stick of 533 and put in the 667 then you will be able to run the Ram at 667. If you leave the old stick in and put in the new 667 stick all your RAM will run at 533Mhz.

    I hope this helps!!! :p

More ram is better than faster RAM. If you had the same amount of RAM it would be about a 5% increase in performance. Personally, I don't think the extra cost is worth it.

extra cost? I found 512mb 667mhz chips at newegg for $81 for a pair ($40.50ish each)... only about $10 more per GIG than comprable 533mhz chips.

When the 667 first came out, they were more expensive. Also from Dell they run something like $25-50 a pair more or higher. That is what I was referring to. Also it depends on the brand and sales currently going on at Newegg. I bought my 2x1GB sticks of 533Mhz ram at newegg for like $160 shipped.

So it depends on deals and brands. Personally I would stick to Corsair, Kingston, Crucial and Transcend. Those are the brands I have had great experiences with.
