My usb does not provide enough current to run the printer. Tried several printers and installed card for USB 2.0. Still no success. Any ideas?

The printer needs to be plugged in.

I totally agree with Brian you have to have a AC source of power, your USB just sends the info to the printer a bit faster than the orignal USB that wasn't 2.0.

The printer is plugged in. The port does not have the current for the communication signal.

Are you sure the ports are even turned on?

More than likely this older printer was not made for USB but a IEEE male to male, from the back of the computer to the back of the printer. New Canon MultiPass will only set you back about $139 and it prints 6 colors + black, CD installed and plugs from printer to ether USB 2.0 speed ports with great retail DVD or CD lables or covers.
