    Hey there,

When I ordered from Dell today, my main priority was that I needed delivery ASAP.

The sales person said 5 days delivery, and when I asked can they guarantee that, they agreed. And that the max date would be 20th.

They said if I order tomorrow, weekend something...it could be severely delayed.

Was that just some bull to get me to buy today? They got my card details and said they would ring me back to tell me that the order had gone through, but they haven't. "All offices are clooosed".

Now, since they haven't called me back to confirm, that means that my order will be completed tomorrow and as they have said "could be severely delayed"

    I'll probably find out tomorrow.

(The last time, Dell tried to get me to upgrade to the T7600 because apparently this would give me priority delivery  )

A sales person is just trained to tell you whatever is necessary to make the sale. And the T7600 thing is bull as well.

No company can guarantee a delivery date, simple as that. No matter how frequently systems are going out on schedule or how reliable to delivery carrier is, there can be unexpected parts shortages and shipping delays.

Fact is if you NEED a system in a short timeframe, go to the store and buy one.

Yay I fell for sales tactics. *Slaps head*.

I kinda liked that answer...more reason to spend because it would arrive sooner. lol, but nah, I completely forgot about upgrading to the T7600 this time. Was too preoccupied with something else (see my last two psots of this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=162495)

Question is though: Has anyone ever received delivery within 10 days of ordering from Dell? Last I heard another guy buying the 1710 here waited a whole month before he just couldn't wait no more and cancelled.

Dell has been experiencing severe delays due to high demand and shortage of parts (whichever you believe), so ya cant truly tell and unless they have this option on their website, they can tell you anything just to get you to order. also even if they have guaranteed delivery, make sure you know what the terms are cuz they could say "unforeseen circumstances are not applicable"

Well I have nothing in text format about the delivery so I guess I've just been screwed over on that part.

I don't think the seller even understood most of what was asking. There seem to be a set of responses that is identical to previous XPS sellers when certain "key words" are mentioned.

"Discount" - "Yes sir, I will do my best to give you the best deal"
"Specifications" - "Yes sir, would you like to upgrade to 3 year warranty?"
"Delivery" - "Yes sir, if you order today your item will arrive on time"

Mainly my fault being so indecisive. I really don't normally care about delivery as long as it arrives (well within a month or two for most things anyway) but this time I really need it to arrive within 10 days, max.

of course. they probably have a manual for all that. its like ordering from a fast food place. "would ya like fries with that" is a generic response where they just want you to spend more and more.

who knows maybe the rep wasnt lying, but yeah without a confirmation, ya never know really til they give you an official timeframe

It didn't help though as it doesn't seem like they're paying attention to what I'm saying and the context I'm saying it in.

    Meh...oh well it's done now.

It's total BS. Plus, I don't see how you would get it in five days, while I've been waiting for 40 days.

My max date apparently has upped 1 day because they released my order only today.

I heard that 1720s took a lot longer to arrive, especially if ordered over the net.

I too was going to order a sunshine yellow 1720 but delivery dates weren't in my favour so I've had to go with 1710 which apparently arrives faster. Shame, I really liked the yellow 1720.

8AM this morning I received a call saying my tracking number and customer number and order number will take about half an hour to get.

4 hours later, nada, so just went and checked as I have no actual ESD/EDA yet. I couldn't get through customer services, waited 10 min on that c rap y hold music so I just went and asked another sales person for my details.

The guy I spoke to started shouting, I think in Hindi, to another rep with mixed English "Hey, your customer is here ...name naame...yes your customer wants to know about the order number." And my first rep was like "I only spoke to him a few hours ago".

Well, I'm glad that they could at least tell the difference between half an hour and a few hours ago. At least I got my order number from this rep.
