Any of you folks upgraded to 4 GB ram. I upgraded mine a couple of days after I got it, but only just noticed that 3581.38 is all that is available. I found out that Vista (Business in my case) needs upgrading from the 32bit OS to the 64bit OS to be able to address all the 4096 of ram. The only problem here is that Dell haven't churned out any 64bit drivers as yet, or so their TS told me.
I would be interested to know if the people that bought 4GB with the machine were told by Dell that they only had the above amount available.

Yes, a 32 bit OS does not recognise full 4 GB of RAM. I have 4 GB as well, and it shows 3582 MB of RAM.

I think may ppl here have been using the 64-bit version of Vista with all the drivers installed perfectly.... Perhaps they may have got the drivers from the actual hardware manufacturer's site or something.... They should be able to help you out.....

you could install 64bit vista on 1700 without any problem and find all 64bit driver from this forum, especially from M1330 64bit vista thread.

If you want all the 4G of ram to be determined, you will need to purchase a 64bit vista outside of Dell because Dell is not shipping 64bit vista.

4GB of RAM in a 32bit version of Vista (as well as 32bit XP) is a waste of money. I'd wait a couple of years when software manufacturers start issuing more 64bit versions of their programs. You can always upgrade later.

Right now, there are just too many out there who aren't on board.

I am a professional poker player who runs a mysql database gathering hands and crunching stats in the background while I play/listen to music/browse the web. Do you think I will see any kind of noticable increase in performance from 2gb to 3gb? If I go 3 I obviously won't be able to run dual channel.
