Ok so this will be my third try purchasing a working dell laptop. My first unit was a new XPS 1335, which had a bios issue and a malfunctioning network card...I sent it back, after 7 hours over 3 days dealing with "customer service" and getting an RMA... the next was a refurb studio 15, with unresolved CPU and CD drive issues, as well as another network card problems. Returned.

So I am stuck with buying a third dell laptop because of financing approval.

I first wanted a fast, working, and dependable unit...now that I have gone through massive headaches and days/nights at my local university working through finances, and trying to find a new apartment because I do not have a working computer...I want blood.

I want Dell to give me a better deal than they "openly" advertise. I know they have millions of customers, and I am an acorn in a forest of redwoods here.

What would you guys suggest I do?

    OK, two initial questions:

What are you expecting from your laptop, and where are do you live?

I live in Ft. Lauderdale and am moving to the Orlando area.

I do not game, mostly utilizing the laptop for a lot of web access; I am a writer and contribute to editorial sites/blogs with lots of multimedia content, typically have many open windows w/ different multimedia content open at once (utilizing them for my writings), I do watch movies on occasion.

I want blu-ray, but can't really afford to spend extra cash on the upgrade because money is tight right now. I was looking at new systems tonight and noticed some prices have actually gone up- I would like to spend about $700 but do not want to go through a refurb unit again.

Hmm, ok; sorry I just thought there are other options apart from finance in the UK.

Considering the money you've got to hand, I think you should go to the outlet. If you place the order by phone, do so with someone from online help; and explain to them the situation. You never know, you might get lucky and get a small discount. I suspect not though, as you've returned both laptops - they don't have any further commitment to you.

Sorry I've not been much help really have I. Nearly 3am and all that...
