How come there is a 3gb dual channel on XPS 1530? Do the 2 Ram must have same architecture?
Anyone using a XPS 1530 that have a 4gb dual channel?
Is it worth the money to upgrade from 3gb ram to 4gb ram in the XPS 1530 (upgrade on your own)?
What will be a good deal?
    Thanks for reading!

800mhz ram is not supported by the Santa Rosa chipset. It will just downclock to 667mhz. Save some money and just get 667mhz ram.

I don't think it's worth buying 4GB even on Vista... I've never been over 1.5GB in RAM usage!
But 70$ isn't that much. In the future you may be using over 2gigs, who knows?

The reason you are seeing laptops with 3gb of RAM is because that is that maximum ammount of ram a 32bit operating system can use. The only reason to get 4gb of ram is if you are getting the 64bit version of Vista as well. Otherwise you are wasting your money with 4gb of ram.

I would reinstall XP anyway for faster performance!
