    For a laptop?
    Depends on size:
    14 in screen 2000 - 2800 (2800 is with overclocking)
15 in screen I'd say 3000-3800 (g1s can get about 5000 with overclocking)
    17 in screen 3800-4800

It also depends on the resolution.

The 8600GT is about 2800-3100 stock, 2900-3600 with modded drivers, and about 3800~ overclocked. As mentioned, that's the 8600GT DDR2, the GDDR3 version is about 3600-3800 stock, and up to 5400 overclocked.

So dell doesn't use the GDD3 in their 8600M GT's right?

    Nope.

The Macbook Pro, ASUS G1s and ASUS G2s all have the elusive 8600GT GDDR3. Every other 8600GT is the DDR2 version.

Of course, 3DMark06 and benchmarking isn't everything :p

You can't. As mentioned in the post, it's the GDDR3 version which you don't have.

It takes 256mb of your RAM and adds it on.

I think there was some confusion in what card we're talking about.

One in G1S, MacBook Pro - the Gddr3 version is 3600 stock
One in Dell is ddr2 and is about 2900 stock and with updated drivers and overclocking it can get to be 3600.
