Anyone know the details on the 3GB option for the m1530? The DELL reps just told me it would be "fast" and didn't know whether it was a 2GB + 1GB setup or if it was two 1.5GB dims.

I know that getting 4GB will be useless unless you have the 64-bit version of vista which currently isn't offered by Dell. Will 3GB be truly utilized with the 32-bit Vista Ultimate OS? I would have gone with 2GB, but I currently wont get the $669 discount if I don't go with 3GB.

    Thanks!

Yes, 1.5GB dimms do not exist.

I believe the way that it will will is in dual channel mode up to 1GB, and then it will have an extra gigabyte in single channel mode.

As for how fast it is, I had 1GB when I first booted up my laptop. It was sluggish and I was a little dismayed. After I instaled the 2x2GB dimms (OCZ), my performance increased substantially.

It registers about 3.5GB of RAM, and it also registers my video card. If you want the 669 off deal, you're just stuck with the RAM. Don't worry about it; it should still be faster than just 2x1GB.

So, yes, it should register the entire 3GB of RAM you would have.

thanks for the info everyone. ill probably end up going with the 3GB since i get it for a better price than if i just got 2GB! I was worried whether it would be of any use or not, but if it will endup being more powerful and cheaper than the 2GB, then why not get it!
