    Hi,

Can one buy Dell's Inspiron line of laptop that would also include either 3G wireless (CMDA/EV-DO) built-in (integerated), or as an external add-on by way of Either Express card or USB? Please share what you have in terms of running 3G.

    Thanks.

    PHK

Yes, some of the home models (The Inspiron 14 comes to mind) can be ordered with a Mini-PCIe WWAN card. Any notebook with a EC slot can use an EC adapter and the same goes for USB.

    Hi,

I am interested in the Inspiron 15 model. I called Dell, and tried to find out what I can order. They refer to some internal integrated option called Mobile Broadband, that one can order for about $125. But they could'nt tell me the details, nor provide spec. of the this piece of hardware.

What I need is something that can run on the Insirpon 15, either come integrated internally, or as external add-on, that support CMDA/EV-DO (I was told by somebody else, if the HW contains Qualcomm chipset, that would work for sure.)

So what exactly I need to tell Dell to order to have this EV-DO functionality?

    Thanks.

According to their web site the I15 is not offered with a WWAN card. That said, if that is the notebook you want, then just buy it and contact your carrier to get the EC or USB adapter.

    Thanks for the clarification.

I called Dell again, but this time, the sales agent is even less knowledgeable than the previous one. So I did some research on Dell's web site, and found this Dell 5720 Mini Card for Verizon. It appears that this is exactly what I need. All things equal, I prefer an internal mounted one, rather than USB which would stick out.

Does the Insipron 15 not support mini-express slot internally?

    Thanks.

    Hey phk,

What i would recommend is to order your computer without the broadband, and then buy either an internal card wwan card ( you can find them at ebay for $25, unlocked, so you can use them with any network ) or buy the external card from your carrier, rather than getting the pricey one from dell.

    Cheers!
