unless you've managed to convince dell to design and fab a 34bit chip, chipset and made them write a 34bit OS, you'll have to settle for the 64bit one. that' if those are the only two options you have.

that apart, 64bit allows you to go for 4gb or more RAM. but there are driver and software issues that creep in, whatever the manufacturers and system integrators may say.

Those driver and software issues that creep in don't happen to most people. I've been running 64-bit Vista since it was released, on 3 different machines, without any driver problems and only one software issue - Cisco VPN client.

You should utilize the search function, but anyway, go for x64 you'll have to look real hard to find something that won't work on x64.

It's 32-bit and 64-bit. Go for the 64-bit since Vista was developed natively on that. It's faster, more secure, and it can handle more memory.

Agreed. I've used 64bit since it was available and never had any problems on mainstream stuff. You might have problems trying to install open source stuff that requires low level drivers, seeing that most open source projects are done for free and therefore nobody wants to pay for the driver signing. However, even this happens to me rarely nowadays, and I'm a big fan of open source stuff.

There's an intermediate 47-bit version too, you should try it. :) But seriously, go for 64-bit, everything is moving in that direction.

Another vote for 64-bit here. This thread really ought to have a poll... :)

I've never had any compatibility issues, and it's an absolute necessity if you ever plan on more than 4GB of memory.

Its mid 2009 almost 2010 and people are still running 32-bit OS that bugs me.

Go for 64-Bit all the way of not if you get 4GB of RAm which is pretty standard today, you will not be able to use it all, Plus 64-Bit is more secure and resistant to viruses.

Think of your PC not today but 2 years from now.

I can not even see someone saying go for 32-bit, especially when In alot of cases, theres no price difference

    108 INR, aint it?

well, one of the things in dell bundle itself has an issue. the creative SB software.plus we forget that people may have old critical stuff to run on their machines.they may face issues in that. but VM should be able to take care of that for you..if you have a licencsed older OS.

exactly. try vmware. you'd like it . you can tweak the OS to bits.and then turn the vm off and carry on with your actual system.
