I ordered my new dell inspiron 1520 with 4GB of ram but when I check the system info it says it has 3.5 GB.

Why is that? Normal, or not? I know hard drives usually have about 10GB less space than they are told they have, but RAM?

To see all 4GB of ram you need a 64-bit OS :)

You need an x64 operating system to use all the RAM.

32-bit will only show 3.5 or so of 4GB.

Learning how to use the Search button is helpful as this question has been answered more times than Stevie Wonder has been waived hello to.
