Is it worth purchasing? I have an employee discount and I purchased it for three years.

If you are worried about your computer and the $$ is worth the peace of mind to you then why not.
I would not spend money on it if you take good care of your equipment. Most things that will fail will probably fail within the 1 year warranty.
Of course if you have small children about, or work in a hazardous environment the money may be well spent.
I see CC in a similar vein as those kind warranties that Best Buy and Sears try to sell you.
It's really personal preference. -
Laptops are portable meaning they have a higher risk than other normal electronics to break. I personally would. I believe it's the smart thing to do.
Have you seen how many threads there are stating:
I just spilled wine/water/pop all over my notebook what should I do?
Hell, I almost passed up on it, and guess what? A week after i got my notebook I broke the screen on complete accident. Funny thing is I'm a VERY careful guy. -
it's just a form of insurance, and as an actuarial science graduate, i believe insurance is important
and of course, same goes for pensions too
so yes, to sum up, i do think that it's worth it -
BUT, if you treat your notebook like a child and never get it even scratched, then it isn't worth it. It depends on how the notebook is going to be treated.
-
I don't believe that mentality.
No matter how careful you are, something can ALWAYS happen.
I treat my notebook better than a child and guess what... -
well
the guy at the kiosk told me that it covers all types of accidents, ie.. spilling coffee on it, dropping it on concrete.. blah blah.. Well he kinda gave me an idea of what i am gonna to my computer 3 yrs from now. I think its worth it, besides u need to get it to use the epp discount -
uhhhh no you don't.
-
I think jokkon means that you get a bigger EPP discount if you do choose it (12% v. 6%, I believe)
-
if you're buying an xps system, you're guaranteed a 12% discount I BELIEVE. So long as your configurations exceed $1400 USD without the aid of EPP discount.
but if the guy at the KIOSK told you that you need to buy CC in order to use EPP discount of any amount, than he's bsing you. -
Yeah, there's some funny business with dell. They give you better discounts with more warranty. See the image. I couldn't get a stable link for you.

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I didnt purchase CC with my outlet M1210, but with my replacement notebook, looking up the service tag shows 3 years of CC.
-
hmmm i guess I was wrong. My first m1210 didn't have complete care but I did have the 12%.
Either way, you did the right choice going with EPP, thanks for the links Gautum. Good research. -
In Florida you cannot get the part of the coverage that covers spills breakage etc......that part kind of sucks because i wanted it for my son's coverage, any alternatives to that??
-
Possibly a rider to your home owners insurance? I'm not super familiar with insurance. The other option would be to take that money and invest it for the next laptop. -
The guys at Consumer Reports seem to think the Dell extended warranty is not worth the money. They think that if something is going to break, it will in the first year. I happen to think the accident coverage is a good thing if you can afford it.

Metamorphical Good computer user
Also keep in mind how long you are planning to keep this laptop? you buy a 3year warrenty and then replace the notebook in two years doesn't that seem like a waste of money. I've know several people that did something like this which seems like a waste.
-
IS it possible to buy CC after you already purchased computer? I bought laptop about 2 weeks ago. If so, will it be higher amount due to laptop already in my possesion?
-
Nobody knows the question above?
-
yes you can as long as your base warranty doesn't expire.
Meaning you can't add warranty after your previous 1 year warranty has expired. -
I'm planning on keeping it as long as possible, beyond the 3 years, so I guess that's why I purchased the extra warranty. I mean I paid $145 for 3 years so that's about $48 more per year. Not bad I guess.
-
same here. $150 for 4 year complete care warranty isn't bad at all.
-
Plus if you do sell it before the warranty runs out it help to add resale value by having a valid warranty still on it. Just have to transfer it to the new owner. So I got a 3 year warranty with CompleteCare and who knows? Maybe I will sell it in 2 years but it will still have a year of warranty plus CompleteCare for the next owner.
3 year Complete Care warranty
