You call up dell spare parts and they should be able to help you out.

Call UK tech support and just tell them you bought a new drive to install and shock, horror, the caddy and interposer are missing and can they help you order the correct parts. If you're lucky they may send them for nowt (worked for me). DO NOT ring customer service - they are clueless.

Good luck, if you manage to get one let me know how, I've tried multiple times now with zero luck, they don't even know what I'm talking about most of the time, offering me external drives and new HDD's, anything but the caddy even when I gave them the product code of the Dell USA site!

They're utterly clueless in the 'UK'

Tried this after you suggested it and they don't appear to know the part even exists, as I said in the other thread, they eventually transferred me to a partner company who were going to contact Dell USA and ship the part over for me - I never heard back, guess the profit margins on a $11 part weren't worth their effort.

Same here I spoke to Dell UK and they tried to sell me a drive only - they wont sell you the caddy and connector on their own.

Does anyone know where to get these from in the UK??

finally got a reply after pestering 'upgrades.co.uk' for a quote

bit of a markup on that considering its $10.99 from Dell, but at least they can be bought in the UK if Dell continue to be difficult about it.

I'd be worried that it doesn't say hard drive caddy AND interposer.
A lot of use the caddy is without the bridge between the drive and the mb socket.
Dell put me on to them at the time too but they only seemed to have stuff for older models and none of the new stuff - least it sounds like that's changing.

point taken, but I sent the guy this link which (I believe) includes the interposer.

Don't suppose you fancy using your amazing skills at hypnotising Dell staff over the phone and getting me one for free do you? :D

called hardware support (again) and got bounced between staff (again) and was again given the number for Upgrade Options. I moaned a bit about this saying I'd been in touch with them already and they were trying to sell me the part at a inflated price, so the guy at Dell has now gone off to find out if he can get me the parts in the UK and is calling me back. I can't believe this is so difficult!!

Luckily I have Small Business warranty - they seem to be a little more helpful plus I'd already built up a relationship with one CS after 2 screen changes so just fired him a mail. He emailed back to say it was in the post.

nope, I never got the call back from Dell which IMO is pathetic customer service.

I'm toying with just going via Upgrade Options and paying what they're asking, its not looking like I have much choice.

its just the caddy/interposer I'm getting quoted for, not the drive itself

Your best bet is to contact 'Frank Drew' at upgrade.co.uk and get him to quote you, came to about £30 inc VAT and delivery when I asked about them. Try quoting Ref: FD5299/2 and tell him you're interested in the same quote.

    WHAT! £50?!

what we need is someone friendly state-side who'll order us some from the US Dell site then get them shipped over, I really can't see it costing that much to do.

Frank quoted- Total Price (Including VAT and Delivery) ….. £50.86

A complete rip off for a small bit of bent metal and a SATA interposer.

Dell UK should be ashamed of themselves for not being able to supply these at reasonable prices (I only paid £330 for the laptop in the first place, so this would be 15% of the purchase price!!!)

Except Dell UK seem to have no idea what it is you're asking for. I'm disgusted that 'Frank' quoted you so much after he quoted me little more that £30 which was already a massive mark up, I'm sorry I recommended you go via him now.

I'm not sure what other steps we can take here, Dell customer / tech support are useless, I'm guessing their complaints department is just as bad. All I want to do is buy a couple of spares, how f***ing hard do they want to make it?

    Hi

I got a 2nd HDD caddy at last (ebay in the end) and it works a treat - I now have 2x250GB drives and run the pagefile from the 2nd hdd oggher with a Ubuntu partition and data partition. 1st drive runs Windows 7 (build 7057 - expires march 2010) and vista 32.

A shame dell uk cant supply these!
