I need to order 2gb of ram for my 1705, I have been reading that pc5300 is better then pc5400. Are either of these two dimm as good or better then OEM or should I be looking for a kit so dual channel works guaranteed.

Well, the Patriot stuff is $4 less per stick and has double the reviews with double the rating... Sounds like a winner to me. Just order, you should have no parity issues... Newegg and memory distributors are usually really good about ensuring dual-channel compatibility. As long as they are the same part number, and not defective, you should be a happy camper!
I was just gonna go with two of the cheapest possible:

Unless you're buying ultra low-latency DDR1 for a super tweaked out rig, RAM is RAM as far as I'm concerned... -

I would go with the Corsair. They should have the same CS and stuff, but it is a better known brand with a great warranty. Since some of the reviews were great for the E1405...it will be safe to assume you can't go wrong with this ram.
Just my $.02 -
im buying RAM for e1705 too. i ordered a 512 ddr2 667 and they gave me 2 x 256 !@#$%^&*(
so im shopping for ram too. i found this on outpost:
http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4779979 << cosair 1gb ddr2 pc2 5300 for $79.99
for you who want 2x1gb, this is another better deal:
http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4789099 << patriot 2x1gb for $159.99
what you think about these? -

You pay a little more, but this is a more "proven" brand. The warranty is also nice. -
All RAM is NOT created equal. There is cheap stuff which causes lock-ups, freezes, etc. Then there is good stuff which are better performing, more stable and have tighter specs which are adheared to during production.
example: in my old deesktop i was using Ultra Branded memory. I had all sort of weird issues. Sent it back for a replacement, same thing with the chip. Got some high-end Mushkin memory and all my problems went away. Nothing was over-clocked. This is one of many examples i have dealt with and seen.
Remember, you get what you pay for. If you think the deal is too good - it probably is........ -

just a noob question... whats the difference between pc2 5400 and pc2 5300 providing they have same speed? is the 5400 better (or faster) or has something improved in any means?

So has anyone found if the 677 memory ends up being faster than the 533?
Cause the 533 has less latency, it all boils down to if the CPU can utilize the extra bandwidth in the 677... lemme know what you guys find out. -

As I expected... I think I'm going to go with 533... I'll have faster timings, and more money

I am not saying 5400 is better, just posted that from another forum to show the difference.
I just make sure I check the reviews on the RAM before I buy. I have heard of a few instances that people had problems with the 5400.
