it depends on which version of windows xp you have.

    32 bit- no

    64 bit- yes

keep in mind though, that unless there is some specific reason that you absolutely need access to 4 gigs of ram, you need to stick with 32 bit windows for the time being.

    Copy that.

In looking at the D630 and doing a side-by-side OS comparison via the Dell configuration, it shows XP as supporting up to 4GB. It doesn't anywhere delineate between the 32 and 64 bit versions. I guess I'd have to assume its shipping with the 64bit version of XP?

I would never trust a mail in rebate to actually 'work.' They always say you didn't follow one rule, and then you're screwed.

Nothing ships with XP x64, so forget that. 32bit flavors will be able to use about 3.25-3.5GB of that RAM.

I was wondering about that too. I was under the impression that 32-bit OSes support up to 4 GB. So what's the problem?

I have heard that the increase in RAM from 2gb to 4gb is negligble at best because of a decrease in performance of the RAM (less efficient). Do you know if the is true Night?

$55 is a decent size MIR and it is Geil but I deal with mail in rebates on a constant basis and normally there are no issues with getting the rebate. At least none that a phone call won't fix.

Shouldn't be a decrease in performance of the RAM. Don't know where you heard that from. You'll need a 64-bit OS to make use of 4 gigs of RAM though and if you're not going to actually use over 2 gigs in what you do then you're not going to see a performance benefit.
