    Hi,

Is the XPS m1330 with the nVidia 8400M GS ready for an external 30" monitor with native 2560x1600 resolution through HDMI output?

Been searching for a while now, but have not been able to find a conclusive answer.

No. 1920x1200 is the uppermost resolution an M1330 will support externally.

So there i no way of having this setup? Is there such a thing as a external gfx card (ExpressCard or whatever), that would make such a setup run on a m1330?

Why buy the ultraportable if you intend to run an external monitor of that magnitude in the first place? It's just not designed to support peripherals of such polar extremes to the specification and intention of the notebook.

The fact that it can power something as capacious as a 24 incher natively is nothing short of admirable.

Next you'll be asking how to play mp3's on a toaster! :p

Hehe - just because i have the need for a small and portable notebook for traveling and such, does not rule out that i also run on multiple monitors, and would like to be able to run on a 30" native resolution, does it? Not in my book at least ;-)

In the mean time i found this: http://www.villagetronic.com/vidock/index.html - looks like it could be the problem solver i am looking for.

I doubt it's going to work.

Dell's 3007wfp monitor needs Dual DVI to run at native resolution.

If the GPU does not support dual dvi, the monitor will run only @ 1200 x 800.

the m1530 has the option for a 8600m GT. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it would support a larger monitor...anyone got any ideas?

Same. Monitor has to support it, and I don't think M1530 supports dual dvi.

The max resolution is 1920x1200. I'm running a 24" monitor and everything looks GREAT. However, the restrictions of the 128 MB GPU are very clear, especially when running Vista.

I can't run Aero + Dreamscene + fullscreen videos in WMP at the same time when I'm using the external. Movie gets all choppy and doesn't line up with sound. Take off the Dreamscene and I'm fine.

To be fair we didn't buy this laptop to play Call of Duty 4 anyways.

I just hooked up 2 x 24" Dell screens to the m1330 (via HDMI and VGA port) and everything ran very smooth i must say. That gives me a resolution of 3840x1200 - not quite the same as 30", but it will have to do ;-)
