Hello all! I'm in the market for a new laptop for my brother, and I was interested which you all prefer, the 2200 or the 600m. I can get the 2200 for about $100 less than the 600m with very similar hardware (Pentium M, 512 MB, 40 GB, etc.) but I was wondering where that $100 is coming from in terms of quality. Dell is kind of vague when it comes to issues like differences in graphics, and, most importantly, case quality/fit and finish. Both look kinda chinsy in the pictures, but I've never actually felt them. Any input would be appreciated!!

The 2200 is cheap for a reason, it's cheaply made and really looks and feels like plastic, the build is just plain bad -- but it will be a small hit on the budget. For a $100 more I'd go for the 600m simply because the build is better and it looks nicer, even if the specs do go toe to toe. What kind of price are you looking at and what is your budget? We might have better suggestions for such a price range.

My aunt has the 2200. Its garbage. Well, not garbage really but its definitely a travelling grandma computer. Internet and Email is all thats really good for so unless your really desperate to save $100, get the 600m.

Or use one of those Dell Coupons and get a nice midrange 6000 or 700m for cheap.

Hey thanks for the input guys! I actually sucked it up and spent about $900 for a 700m (w/ 40% off coupon, of course :) ;) ). I think the 700m looks like the best of that bunch from the website, and from what I've read here and elsewhere, is pretty sweet. Thanks again! (BTW, I ordered it about 24 hours ago, it's already boxed! )
