I just want to post my experience as I was worried about purchasing the dell 1330 from the quality issues I read about.

I ordered the 1330 on Sunday the 6th, 2008, at night. This is what I ordered:

2.2 ghz t7500 santa rosa 800 mhz bus
6 cell and 9 cell battery
    4 year warranty
    3 gigs of ram
7200 rpm 160 gig hard drive
    LED screen
    built in bluetooth
    11.n wireless card

As you can see it's loaded by todays standards for a laptop this size.
The price came to $1850 american with next day delivery to new york.

It arrived on the 10th (thursday). No defects. No cpu whine or sounds. Super quiet, super sexy, fast, solid, no uneven base, no dings, even no asymmetrical spacing on the left hinge.

I'm very impressed, and I just want to pass this positive experience along. It really is a phenomenal laptop. The only other option I was considering was the sony sz, which with a very similar spec came out to over 600 bucks more expensive. Very significant. I have to say that even at the same price I'm not sure what I would choose, the sz is slimmer and a tad tad lighter, but the dell 1330 is amazing, with more dedicated video memory, two headphone jacks, great quality earplugs (the creative labs earbuds that come with this puppy really rival my seidenheisers), and it feels like a great performer to me.

I'm a game software developer, but I will be using the laptop mostly for small c# personal projects, and as my main home computer when I can't use my desktop. The camera is great too if you use skype etc.

At work I use two intel core 2 workstations with 3 monitors, and 2 xbox 360 devkits. I personally feel that a notebook should be no bigger than the dell xps 1330, it's a portable solution and it should be as light as possible. The screen is beautiful and should be enough for any small concentrated development tasks.

Wow that's amazing, given the amount of complaints there are about the XPS M1330. I got mine on Tuesday, and it has CPU whine, uneven base and sound popping issues... But it was a prebuilt system so maybe I'll have more luck with a 2008 manufactured model?

Just a note on the shaky system issue: I own 3 batteries for my M1333O; it shakes with one of them, and one of them only. It is otherwise rock-solid with either of the other 2.

So if your system shakes, see if you can swap batteries with a friend for a minute to see if that solves the shake.

ok so a few more days of experience with the laptop. still no issues. using the 6 cell battery right now, has about 45-60 minutes of charge left after 2 hours use (i recharge after that). screen is really detailed and crisp much better than my old crt, but smaller. i played team fortress 2 on it today, and with almost everything turned down it ran really well but the 13" is screen is not great for real-estate. I didn't try with settings turned up, I always turn settings down in these games.

Other than that have been developing some c# and c++ code on it and I think the resolution is great. funny enough i would almost say it's definitely not a small laptop, it is very small, but really i just wouldn't want anything bigger. i tried the 8lb laptop thing before, it just doesn't work. if you really want to walk around with your laptop (i commute and work in NYC every day), then there's no point in not trying to get the thinnest lightest laptop you can afford that can still perform what you need.

Did you try the other option of a different player as suggested in your other thread?
