I'm thinking about upgrading from the 2007WFP monitor to the 2408WFP, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not.

My concern is that the 2007WFP uses the excellent S-IPS panel, while the 2408WFP (and 2407WFP) use an S-PVA panel.

Anyone here use or see both the 2007WFP and the 2408WFP (or 2407WFP) that can give a comparison report?

    Thanks...

I owned the 2005WFP, and currently have the (non-HC) 2407WFP. Honestly, both are great and I'd be happy with either. Naturally, I'm more happy with 24" and recently added another 17" monitor (to be delivered soon) from Dell.

You may want to search around though about the 2408WFP, and make sure it will fit your needs. Some over at [H]ardforum are complaining about this monitor, but to be fair they complain about all the 24" monitors right now.

Hmmm, thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't aware of that. Can you give me an idea of what they're complaining about? Might help while searching.

EDIT: Never mind, already found mention of several problems (color gradient on the left and right sides, rainbow effect, etc).

There's a great deal on this monitor that expires in a few hours, but I think I'll pass for now. Maybe Dell will fix some of the problems -- the 2408 is still pretty new.

    Thank again.

What a pity on the 2408. I have the 2007WFP and was planning to upgrade to a 24" monitor too. The 2408WFP, with its wide array of ports is perfect, but I'm also hesitant due to the amount of problems reported which seems pretty serious as I'm incredibly fussy.

The same problems were reported when the 2007FPW was first released. It was not until Rev. A01 or Rev. A02 that those issues were completely resolved.

Both have there pro's, but the Dell S-PVA panel is pretty decent and should be close to your S-IPS panel. Its gonna come down to if you want to spend the $$$ and need the extra resolution.

    I guess I'll wait a while. It's more of a *want* than a *need*, anyway. :)

An S-PVA panel is still a very good LCD panel, even if it isn't an S-IPS panel.

I ordered an UltraSharp 2007WFP, and owned it for about a week before using Dell's 21-day satisfaction guarantee to go up to a 2407WFP. In my case, I was upgrading from a Samsung SyncMaster 900P 19" CRT. The 20" widescreen wasn't large enough for me.

I've been very happy with my 2407WFP; the 2408 is supposed to be a further improvement. Below is a link to a very objective review on this display. While it lists possible flaws, it also suggests that, like with any LCD, some of the experiences reported are subjective, and vary from person to person.

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/dell_2408wfp.htm

Ultimately the decision is yours; but I feel that Dell's UltraSharp 24" LCDs rank up there as a great performing display for less money than some of the top-flight (probably slightly higher performance) but higher-expense models.

One final note: Not all 2007WFP displays are S-IPS. At the time it was produced, Dell's pattern with the 20" Ultrasharp models was to start with S-IPS panels, and as the panel market became broader, to start shipping some S-PVA panels as well. You may wish to check that your 2007 actually is one of the S-IPS versions; there are many threads on forums on how to enter the service mode of your Dell LCD, and check the model of panel so that you know the specs.

    Mine's a verified S-IPS panel.
