is there a big difference between 2.0 ghz and 2.4 ghz core 2 duo?

Depends which specific models we are talking about. There are multiple 2.0Ghz C2D's and multiple 2.4Ghz C2D's.

Unless your doing super heavy CPU tasks then there is no real difference. My 2.1GHz penryn does multitasking the same as my CAD workstations with a 3.0GHz C2D 45nm.

Yeah, and let's try comparing a T5750 (about the crappiest 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo available - 2MB of L2 and a 667 FSB) to a P7350 (only 3mb of L2, but rocking a 1066 FSB)
Both CPUs are 2.0Ghz, but I am positive that the P7350 would absolutely crush the T5750. Even a T7300 (4mb L2, 800mhz FSB) would do better than a T5750. -
I tend to look at them more along the lines of what processor you are getting. I'd definitely want a Penryn over the older Merom ones. Going forward you will want the newer Montevina Penryn chips.
