So this is the story. I've posted before but I couldn't find the original post to update.

We bought a dell laptop almost 3 months ago and because of recurrent problems we sent back 4 of them, trying to get one that worked adequately. Finally we got the last one and were not happy with it but Dell made us a fair offer and we took it. Because of the recurrent laptops going back and forth we ended up with 2 laptops and completely forgot about it. We went through a move and all our stuff is in storage now. My wife remembered for me, thank God, that we still had 2 and they had never contacted us on this. Before they had just send the waybill and we dropped the old computers back at the depot.

I called Dell 3 times now on this issue asking that they send me a new waybill to return the extra laptop. I could not provide them with the laptop service tag because all our stuff, which we aren't using, is still in boxes. Every time I called the CS rep looked through our huge file to return to tell me that everything was received and to enjoy our Dell laptop. Finally, worried that Dell would accuse us of trying to keep 2 laptops, I called CS one more time and asked them to do a check through their system and call me back once they found the missing laptop so I could send it back. Today I get a call from CS saying they looked into again and "all laptops have been returned". I took he name, noted the date and case number and left it at that.

Now the dilema. I do want to return the laptop we are not using since we don't even really have a use for it and I would hate for Dell to come to us months from now about this. This would mean that I would have to go sifting through our boxes, which are not easy to get to right now, just to call Dell up and asked them to check again. I am considering just leaving this issue till we get into our new place and get the boxed delievered, which may be 4 months from now. By then it will be hard to call Dell and tell them they screwed up, as I'm sure they will think I'm trying to keep this frigging thing!

    Frustrated..

I would just keep records of everything to prove that you are not trying to keep it.

As long as you have proof - emails, bills, chat logs, etc - then I wouldn't worry at all.

You tried. Just make sure to get a proof of the CSR's statement via email or something for future reference.

Yeah, I suppose you can use it until you get a bill for it (if you ever do). But definitely don't try and sell it because that could bite you in the butt later. They must have had a mix up with the service tag numbers they sent you...this dilemma seems to be happening on more than one account here with people getting multiple computers...

if you still have access to the boxes...take the laptop WITH YOU. It's not like it's a big box to carry. Keep it at a reachable distance for when and if it's needed.
Document everything, do an ONline chat to make sure again, because you get a transcript of the chat as your proof.

    Then happily use both laptops.

It's one thing to try to rip them off, but you're trying hard to get the laptop back to them. Yet, they don't really seem to want it back.....
Second suggestion is you provide them with the service tag number so they can track it.
