    Hi guys,

I am considering getting my screen replaced because it is grainy. Can a tech come out to do it or do I have to send the laptop in? How do I check what mine is? Where is it located physically on the LCD? I have taken the laptop apart before, just not the LCD.

My second question is what slot does the 8600M GT use? MXM-II? Just wondering about future upgradability.

    Thanks, ps2cho

A tech could probably replace the screen, but LCD replacement can be a tricky prospect, so just make sure it's a Dell tech.

The 8600 M GT is probably using Mini PCI-E, but it may not be very upgradeable. I've noticed many laptops using modular (supposedly upgradeable) cards tend to require motherboard upgrades to use upgraded graphics cards :(.

with regards to the replacement, it actually depends on the warranty you have. if you have a next day warranty then an onsite tech will come out to replace your LCD (next day means next business day after onsite tech got the part from Dell). if you dont have the next day warranty, it means you have to send the system back to DELL.

    I have the MONITOR\AUO2077

I understand this is the worst of the bunch :( Let me go check my warranty.
EDIT: I have 2 years next business day :)

So I must demand the LG screen correct?

it is getting harder and harder to get the LG screen because dell knows now that we know the SEC and AUO screens pretty much blow.

    Yep AUO2077

I am speaking to a dell rep right now. Hopefully he can ensure I get the LG screen sent to me for repair.

When I get the LCD to me, is there specific markings on it so I am not wasting my time and the repair guy's time with a screen other than LG?

i don't know... make sure it is an LG and refuse the replacement if it is not.

Ok just got off and he said there are no guarantee's as to which LCD I will be getting...

Once the tech arrives to my house though I will refuse it unless it is the LG. I won't waste his or my time.

As I asked before, are there any logos or anything so I can distinguish before he puts it in the laptop?

    This is what I have:
    -3 Year Limited Warranty
-Type 15- Third Party At Home Service with Nights and Week ends, 24x7 Technical Support, 2 Year Extended
-Dell Hardware Warranty PlusOnsite Service, Extended Year

If I chose to get a replacement screen if it was grainy, I could request a new one with the warranty specs I have, right?
