I placed an order for an XPS M1710 on 16 September. By the 17 September the order status had cleared the pre-production stage and was in production. The original EDD was (and still is) 13 November.

I've never ordered from Dell before - is a 2 month order to delivery time normal?! (I'm in the UK, if that makes any difference).

that's not normal, 2 month is ridiculus. you better phone them up.

PS. why are you buying a laptop with a platform 2 gens behind?

it is not normal because 2 months is a long time to wait for a laptop to be made.
usually the esd is only around 1 month from the order date.

    i ordered a m1530 on september 11 and i had a esd of october 8.
but it was delivered on september 29.

OK, spoken to them & even mid November is looking like it won't be achieved! Allegedly, it's extremely popular...
Valid question. Budget had limited me, and the specs fit what I will actually use it for (for the next year), so was sort of satisfied.

But...I've now cancelled the order (can't be doing with waiting that long!), and I'm thinking of throwing more cash at this so that I won't need to replace in the next couple/few years. I'm presuming the better laptop to go for is the M1730 (I may need to post on the "what laptop should I buy" board I guess..).

    Time to start researching :(

The M1730 would be the better purchase but I have a feeling that you will have a long wait for it because its even more populaur than the older model. I should know becuase I ordered 8th september and been in phase 3 for 2 months!

Check out my thread to find out why!
