I have been looking for a new notebook to replace my CSX500 which has been great but getting a little old. I am a DELL fan. I have narrowed my decision to either the Inspiron 1300 or 6400. The main difference is with the processor, the 1300 being a 1.5 and the 6400 a 1.6 dual core. The difference in price is about $300. The 1300 is $700 (tax out) and the 1300 is about $1,000 Canadian (I would not buy the glossy screen eventhough no discount is provided). So I guess the question comes down to this dual core processor, is it worth the $300 extra? Is there a tangible difference in speed between a dual core and a non dual core  ?

Also, I am in Canada. Coupons appear to be fairly scarce around here just like any EPP programs and dog sleds this time of year  . If anyone also had advice on any possible additional discounts would be much appeciated.

    Thanks.

I second the Core Duo - you'll certainly notice a difference in performance, even in everyday tasks (such as Windows utilities).

Wow, the replies on here are lightning fast! I use it mostly for internet, email and some office tasks. Would the new Windoes version work on either? Again, is the dual core worth $300 more? Will they both be obsolete in 2 weeks? I had read good reviews on the 1300 and not so good on the 6400?

Yes the new version of Windows (Vista) will work on either processor but performance would be much better with the dual core.

My vote goes to the dual core as well.

i would also vote for the dual core. Your tasks don't take up alot of resources, but still you'll notice a bigger difference. Plus this is latest technology, so if you end up doing more heavy duty tasks in the future, your laptop would be more likely to handle it.

I am glad I asked because I was just about to order the 1300. From what I can see, I will be better off spending more on the 6400 (but with the matte screen unless I am missing something I don't like the mirror screen).

Also, is this a good deal or is it just the regular price? Are there better deals to be had for this unit especially for someone in Canada? Has anyone had any luck with a coupon or EPP in Canada and if so, can you please share?
