I pulled the trigger on the 17R SE over the weekend. Believe it or not it arrived today and I was pleased to discover it came with BIOS version A02.

It's not available for download yet though.

Just got my system exchange today, and it too came with A02. There was a recent delay with shipping out the 17R SE, and I wonder if it was related to some of the problems people have been having. My old system had the audio static issue reported here and on the Dell support forums, and there was no way to fix it except to have someone come out and replace the motherboard and power cord. After the tech left and the MB was replaced, the computer wouldn't boot into Windows or the Dell system recovery app. My exchange system was ordered 8/2 and it just shipped yesterday, whereas new orders were shipping next day back in July. I'm hoping this new batch will have the kinks worked out. :)

When you are talking about the audio static issue, is this the issue where you can't have the laptop on full volume without it creating static?

If BIOS A02 can fix this problem, that I'll be happy. I am curious what other bugs have been fixed with this BIOS. I know there was also an issue relating to the Nvidia Optimus not transitioning correctly between AC and battery power. I hope that is fixed.

to be honest..i have not had any smaller or bigger issues with this new model (7720)..........sometimes there is some cracks in new systems, but this model works great.

the thing with the cpu gets warm if it runs around 3 ghz a longer time, its pretty normal......all i7 produce heat, especially in Turbo mode. sure if a new BIOS will in somehow draw down the heat in turbo boost it will be good.........but this laptop works so extremely good in games right now so im not sure i wanna change anything

No, I had a very loud static noise coming from the subwoofer that was intermittent and would occur after almost every sound as well as just randomly even if the computer was idle. It would happen during boot (before windows loaded) as well as in windows, so I knew it wasn't driver related. I have a completely different laptop now (system exchange), and fortunately, I have not had the problem in the replacement.

I'm not sure what A02 changes

Well, tell us if the GPU boost stop is still there, throttling of CPU, screen flickr with battery use.

There's BIOS A03 listed for download on the drivers/download page, however, it gives you an error when trying to download it.

I wonder what BIOS A03 fixes? I saw that on the drivers page for the 17R SE laptop.

    Nothing changes for GPU performance.
First I started furmark, GPU boosted to 835MHz and stayed there until I loaded prime95, then it dropped to 745MHz just as before as seen on the monitoring line. After this there is no way to get it to boost to 835MHz again except turning computer off and on again (sometimes I've even had to take out battery to get 835MHz boost again).

So the issue where you loose GPU boost after exceeding certain load is still present.

Also noticed that bios A03 has an older date than what my A02 bios had.

So I might actually have downgraded my bios by upgrading it :p

Not that I've noticed any negative sides.

A03 is dated 13.07.2012, my A02 was dated 06.08.2012, almost a month newer.

it doesn't a mean a thing when the bios is dated...............if its a03 its means they have change some small things after a02......thats it.
(i would never go down to a02 if a03 works properly)

i also now have a03....see if games/streaming gets even better... :)

I also found that fps is more steady with this bios, less fluctuating, probably due to the new nvidia bios version.

All in all pretty good upgrade.

great guys. Glad to hear the BIOS A3 is working better. What about the unplug AC power to battery and then battery back to AC power GPU clock issue that you guys talked about before? Has this been fixed in A03?

Freakin A!!! I thought that was suppose to be fixed. I hope its not too bad then. Sounds like BIOS A03 has shown some improvements in system performance elsewhere.

just because some people have monitor an reduce on the GPU turbo speed with ex. furmark........it not necessary means there is some wrong ????

have you ever thought about that ???? (furmark and some other "stress-programs" is know for be a bit misleading in temps and other things.

i have never felt any lack of GPU power when i play games.........im really not sure its a problem here.

    Do this simple test:

Unplug power adapter while nvidia card is in use, reconnect power and BAM max 745MHz core speed until you reboot computer.

Has nothing to do with prime/furmark etc etc.
