I tried installing a couple Windows 8 updates like a freaking farking idiot earlier and now my 17R 5720 has a beige yellow screen when turned on with a pure white line at the bottom while beeping 4 times in a row over and over. I have no external monitor and it's never done this before. I can't do diagnostics because I can't see the screen after I choose that in the boot menu. I can get to the boot menu and there I can barely see the choices but can see just enough to choose one.

I have a little under a month of warranty left. Then my Square Trade warranty starts

If you can't even get into diagnostics, this is probably a hardware issue and unrelated to the w8 updates you installed. Since you are still in warranty, you should contact Dell and have them fix the machine.

They are sending a box so I can send it to the depot and they can replace the screen. With it being a '17 incher (ha ha that sounded bad) anyway since it's not easily portable I usually use it on the couch or in the bed at home. They gave the impression that they think it could have been damaged somehow which isn't true. The only thing that's hit the screen is months ago when I was moving around on the couch my mouse hit the bottom part under the screen because it kind of slid across the keyboard but that was last year and it barely hit it at all.

Do you all usually include the harddrive when sending your laptop in? I haven't included it before and in the email they sent it said that it was optional but in the chat they said to send it along with the adapter. I'm using my old Dell laptop and only have the one adapter that I'm now using on the older one. Would they still fix it if I maybe accidentally forgot to include my adapter?

In my experience they usually will, but you shouldn't chance it.

My Mom found my old adapter when she was looking for something else so that was dumb luck. I taped a note on notebook paper that took up the top listing all the issues I had been having since the sheet of paper they include to fill out doesn't give enough room in that box at the bottom to mention much. I've been following the progress on the part of the site where it allows owners to do so and on the part where they list if anything has been replaced they listed the battery, motherboard and the base. They didn't mention replacing the screen. I'm hoping that it may have been a wire or something else that was fixable led them to being able to solve the white/beige screen of doom that I was getting.
