I was dying to know so I went ahead and bought a Filemate Solidgo 24GB SSD expresscard that operates through the PCIe bus. My other two hard drives are identical internal WD500's.

Installed it last night into my Studio 1737, booted to a w7 install DVD, and installed w7 on the drive.

Upon restart the "W7 SSD" is an option on my boot menu. When I attempt to boot it throws an error(Sorry guys I forgot to write it down) but I believe it was
Going through the recovery program on the w7 install DVD fails, the reason it gave me was something to do with 'removable storage'

Now going by the above evidence, I *think* it would be possible to have my boot tables on one of the SATA drives, and make it point to the SSD. Expresscard is not an option in my BIOS(A07) but "removable storage" is.

Ideally I would have the following setup:
    24GB Expresscard-XP32 for gaming only
    500GB SATA1-XP32/w7/Ubuntu for general use
    500GB SATA2-Storage

Does anyone have any pointers? I know very little about boot assignments, but I am willing to learn!

Last night I made up a windows XP install CD with drivers integrated for my SSD.
I also modified the install CD so that it would allow installation on what is normally called removable media.

During installation, my SSD is recognized as SATA0 (physically in the expresscard slot) and my main hard drives as SATA1 and SATA2 respectively(They are physically in the sata slots)

Windows installs just fine, and "XP SSD" is shown as an option on my boot list (I renamed the install)
But when I try to boot to the "XP SSD" option I am informed that the drive cannot be found :(

    Any ideas?
