Hi, I'm curious. I've seen quite a few people on here who've ordered Inspiron 1720s and had to wait. Now, mine went in to pre-production on the 2nd of january, and still is in that stage according to the site, and estimated DoD is next monday. What are my chances of a delay, and what's the chance of the website not having correct information? Want my laptop! :D

Hey, I ordered an Inspiron 1520 on January 9th, it went in pre-production the 11th, and I just got an email today saying that my order was shipped yesterday...

    ...well...I guess that didn't help you much..=/

Hey mates you could've just posted on my topic ;)

Anyway, I ordered mine on the 27th of Dec and was in pre-production on the 28th and I've been waiting since then and on saturday the 12th of Jan I received an email saying that the new estimated delivery date has been changed from the 16th of Jan to the 21st of Feb!!
I cancelled my order this morning basically saying i am not prepared to wait 5 weeks for a laptop and they offered nothing to try and keep me from cancelling e.g. discounts, free upgrades, etc etc..

2 months for a laptop???? i'm a uni student in my final year and i have deadlines coming up which unfortunately arent extendable just for Dell and i need a laptop now! So i cancelled it and placed an order off ebay from step in computers based in sheffield for a brand new dell 1720 which is basically a cancelled order. The only different is i have a blue microsatin back instead of alpine white, 4gb instead of 2, 240gb hdd instead of 250, and 6 cell instead of 9 cell, all for £20 extra.. The laptop is in transit atm and i should receive it tomorrow thank god :)

I also saw a brand new dell laptop sold by another shop which is 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, 240gb hdd, 6 cell, 8600m gt, for around £650 with 1-2 days delivery...
I'm kickin myself for not ordering that instead and savin around £50 but oh well lol.

Basically after speaking to Dell by email they say that the 1720's are being delayed because there isn't enough supplies to satisfy the high demand and they're also having problems with their suppliers.
If you have the time and patience to wait 5 weeks for a laptop then go ahead :) but if you're like me who needs it now then i'd suggest you buy one off ebay because i know two companies on their selling cancelled dell orders at very good prices and can ship either next day or two days!!

Sorry about the long post! Hope it works out for u!!

Well, the thing Is I felt like I got a decent deal on my dell laptop. 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, 240gb ish hdd, 9cell, 8600m gt, midnight blue, for £616. So I'm gunna try and be hopeful with this. Just out of curiosity, is there any sort of reimbursement if it comes after a certain point?

dunno it depends on how luck u are about the reimbursement, sometimes they would offer you a discount, free upgrades, for having to wait so long.. but sometimes in my case 'pffft, nada'.. as i said if you're prepared to wait then that's alright but in my case i dont have the patience and time to wait cos of uni :(
