I was just wondering if anyone here has ordered the 1720. I ordered mine on Tuesday. This is the first 17" model that I have ever ordered. I enjoy watching movies on my laptop so I thought this would be a great choice. Now I don't know if this was such a practical idea. I hope it won't be too big to comfortably sit on my lap. I'm looking forward to trying it out, though. I ordered it in jet black :)

You might find that 17-inch notebooks are very heavy and are too bulky to carry around too much. Try out some 17-inch models at computer stores to see if they are too heavy for you... By the way, in my opinion, the Dell Inspiron 1520 offers the same performance (Video card, processors, Blu-ray disc player, and etc.) at a much lighter weight. The screen of the 17-inch is significantly bigger though... It's your choice... Oh, and by the way, the Jet Black color option is cheaper because it isn't glossy... All other colors are glossy.

good luck it's cool, but u know it's heavy and hard to carry so u must think it's a desktop replacement.

No, I'm not planning on using it as a desktop replacement.

well if not you may have been happier with the 15" 1520 as you can nearly enough configure the same options in it with a more portable smaller option.

I ordered a 1720 on Tuesday morning, and then cancelled it that evening and ordered the 1520. Someone at work had a 17" lappy and it was pretty big and bulky, not comfortable to port around with. Also, the 1720 has the full 10-key on the side which makes the keyboard layout off center. That would bug the heck out of me. I would still be happy with a 1720, but for my needs, something more portable from work to school to office LAN parties, and the 1520 is just the ticket.

Anyone who orders the 1720 shouldn't be dissapointed, it's still a nice lappy.
