My 1720 works great (see config). Very solid, screen is gorgeous and FAST. Only negative I can think of is it froze when surfing the net and doesn't always shutdown properly. This happen to anyone else? Wondering if it's a dumb Vista problem or a potential hardware issue...

b0r supposedly sent a review to the owner of this site. It has not been approved yet. Since it is a 172 1, I doubt that he will post it.

Yeah, b0r was supposed to have sent one in. Additionally, another poster who recieved it said that he would work with b0r on making a joint 1720/1721 review but that doesn't seem to have materialized. I just want a review up. Anything.

I have my 1720 but don't have the time to write a full review. What would you like to know?

battery six cell lasts about 2 hours on high performance and should go 2 and 1/2 with lower settings... i got the 1440*900 screen... colors kinda look washed .. but that is probably due to it being a lcd and no proper drivers

I've only had mine for a day now, but here's what I've dealt with so far.

    T7300 2ghz Core 2 duo
    GeForce 8600M GT
    160MB 5600RPM HDD
    2gb 667Mhz memory

Heat/Noise: Nonexistent. Seriously, I've tried to listen for the noise, but people using computers in adjacent rooms overpower it. There is surprisingly very little heat, even while running something as performance intense as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Display: Very, very nice. Although, I have the glossy cover on mine and when running on the Dell Recommended battery setup, the color is so low that I can see my reflection easily and it's a bit overpowering. When I plug in, all of that disappears even in a moderately lit room. There's a slight hint of light bleeding on the bottom, but it's nothing you can really notice during video playback or anything. However, the gloss becomes a bit of an annoyance when viewing the screen at different angles.

Performance: For the price, it's hard to beat. Although I have to admit I'm not a pro-tweaker, my initial 3DMark05 scores were in the mid-5000 range when I've read about the 8600GT scoring in the 6000's.

Keyboard/Touchpad: I haven't used the touchpad much since I bought the Logitech matching mouse accessory along with the laptop, but it seems to be out of the way and I never accidentally touch it while typing. The keyboard is pretty much standard quality with very soft stroke. They have a smooth aluminum/plasticy feel to them, which some people hate, but it doesn't bother me.

Build: The hinges are very strong, and even when moving the screen back and forth, there is very little wobble when I release, which is surprising for such a massive screen. I haven't felt a bit of flex in the structure and it seems to be made to be sturdy. Even still with its durability, this thing is incredibly lightweight. The looks are enough to turn some heads, especially if you pick a lighter color, but it's very basic and not frilly like most "gamer notebooks" are if you are into the simplistic iPod-ish style.

Battery: I haven't done a full test of the battery capability, but I'm guessing that on default battery settings, this thing will run about two and a half hours on a fully charged 6-cell. However, as previously stated, you'll probably want to turn the brightness up a bit unless you want to use this thing as an expensive mirror. Still, over 2 hours with this much power is incredible.

I'll have to cut it short for now since I need to get back to work, but I'll add benchmarks and such when I get home.
