I dont know whats causing it, but i have my 1720 connected to an external hdtv on clone same on all displays, never had this prob before and i dont know where its come from,i have the power option setting to do nothing when i closde lid, and before when i close lid it turns of the laptop screen and keeps the external on, but somehow in the last day or so it switches of the external screen when i close the lid

ive tried changing the power options etc to other settings, then changing back, and tried everything i can think of, its driving me nutts , anyone had this problem or know how to sort it ????

What you are saying doesn't make any sense.

"before when i close lid it turns of the laptop screen and keeps the external on, but somehow in the last day or so it switches of the external screen when i close the lid"

Read that again, it is pulled right from your post. It makes no sense!

eh ? of course it does , read it again

it says before when i close laptop lid, it turns of laptop screen and keeps the display on the external, but now when i close the lid, it turns of the external display aswell

ive tried power options where it says what to do when i close the lid, and all diplay settings, but i ever fiddled with anything in the 1st place, its driving me insane !!

your post just said it now switches to external when you close the lid. You never said that it does not show on the external any more.

Go re-read the post again......and perhaps add in the missing "f"s. Here, I'll help....

"before when i close lid it turns of f the laptop screen and keeps the external on, but somehow in the last day or so it switches of f the external screen when i close the lid"

In other words, originally when the OP would close the screen on his laptop, only the laptop screen would go blank and the external monitor would continue to display properly. Recently, when closing the laptop screen, both it AND the external monitor would go blank.

To the OP, other than checking your settings again, I'm sorry but I can't offer any other suggestions.

did you get a new nvidia driver?

Did vista try to get it for you?

Post anything you've done with your computer (tweaks, anything to settings) that you have done...before it happened.

no nothing at all, thats why its driving me mad !! ive not fiddled with any settings on anything, not changed drivers ,ive tried changing things like the when i close the lid setting, to other settings like sleep and that works, restarting,,then changing it back to do nothing, and it still turns the external off,

i then in all my frustrations completly uninstalled the nvid drivers, cleaned it all etc, then it worked of and kept the external on as it should and originaly did..so i installed new drivers, but it had still kept all the same nvid control pannel settings , and the problem came back ...so its something to do with nvidea settings somewhere ?? so how can i completly erase all nvid control pannel settings ?? i posted inthe graphics section to no avail and cant find anything via google ??

    thanks man
