T9500, the T9300 is more cost efficient though. T7500 isnt a bad choice either

I highly recommend the 2.5GHz T9300 processor. However if you could get the 2.6GHz T9500 for the same price of a T9300, then go for it. They can found in Ebay for a good price. Search around.

PS, not to mention that the 1720 actually does support the X9000 processor as well if your needs should suffice for a higher speed processor for your; such as rendering a 3Ds Max scene/video encoding needs. But don't expect overclocking as the BIOS doesn't have an option to do it.

Thus for everyday uses, T9300 is my choice in all aspects especially price : performance ratio.

i think the x9000 is a waste on the 1720 since it cant be overclocked, thats kind of the point of the x-series. It also runs a little hot so i'd modify the heatsink/fan unit a bit if you were going to do the x-series

Oh yes, I have agree. Like I said above, it's pointless to have an X9000 since it can't be OC'ed. It's quite a bummer. For the OP, I'm not sure what he does but the increase from 2.5 to 2.8GHz (for my 3D rendering and encoding needs) is noticeable.

However temperature wise, I recall there was a guy back then who actually had his 1720 modded with a X9000 without any form of fan/heatsink modification. The thermal specification of the X9000 is 105°C, he stressed tested for 8 hours wPrime and Orthos and his temps were like just 54 - 63°C.

    EDIT: I get around 48 - 50°C while doing a 5 hour rendering at 100% CPU usage.

Nope. It's a Santa Rosa GM965 platform and it will downclock itself to 667Mhz effective speed instead. With BIOS A09 you can mod it up to 6GB RAM if you want to. But I don't see why you need alot of RAM unless you do alot of photoshopping work for example.

yep you can do 6gbs if you're running a 64bit OS

i dont personally own an 1720 but my 1520 is quite unique as you can see in my sig.

someformofhuman how do you like that sound card? im still using the onboard but the debate for the x-fi is still in the air.
