    when I hook my inspiron 1720 up to my Standard def TV, all I get is static. I've tried changing to resolution and drivers. how do i fix this?

    There is a key combo that you have to press to switch to the external screen (Usually ALT-SCN (looks like a monitor icon in light blue)). Repeatedly tapping that key combo will usually switch you from external display, to internal display, to both. Also, you need to connect the TV while the laptop is off, and make sure you are connecting it to video in on the TV. The 1520's don't have a modulator built in, so you can't just hook it up and tune to channel 3/4.
