I bought a 1720 in September and the speakers squeal terribly even at low volume. I didn't notice it in the first few months but now you can't miss it. I hardly use them anymore as I can't stand listening to anything which is annoying, because I bought the thing because I thought that it would sound better than my 6 year old lappy.

Is there anything I can do to fix it? Is it a Dell problem or am I stuck with it?

XP or Vista? If XP, mute Input Monitor on the playback panel.

I have Vista home premium on it. Tried messing around with the WMA player equaliser but that didn't help. Did the diagnostic tests and they were fine.
