If you still have warranty, then call or email Dell and ask for a replacement drive. My dvd burner wasn't burning dvds, so i asked for replacement and they sent me a new one (for free of course). Now everything works :)

Get the dell part number off of it and check dells web site or ebay. That is of course assuming you are out of warranty because you can just get dell to send you one most likely if its in warranty.

Every 1720 in the world still has warranty - it only came out in July last year.

    RING DELL!! ;)

I got a replacement for mine too. It just died one day. They should send you one within a few days if you call them up.

Mine died after 4 burned DVDs. I put off calling them, but replacement was very easy (One screw holds the thing in). My replacement came in a couple of days.

You need to be speaking to Tech Support not Customer Service.
