Last night the CPU Fan on my 1720 started making an annoying ticking sound.

If I put my ear next to the CPU exhaust it's certaintly coming from that location. I've run the Dell Diagnostics and when the fan spools up, down the clicking speeds up and slows down and stops when the fan does.

It's not a typical bearing going sound but more like the fans just catching something ever so slightly.

It has in fact just stopped. From experience I would be very lucky if it goes away.

Anyone else have any similar probs with the 1720 ?

Not overly concerned as I still have over 800 days warrenty.

    Cheers

My machine is still doing this off and on intermitantly. Does anyone have experience with Dell as regards problems like this ? eg I report it and en Engineer comes but the problem does not manifest that day ?

You can have them swap out the HSF for you since it seems to be noisier than you want it to be.
