    Hi folks...
I've got a new Dell 9400 with the TrueLife screen. When they say "Ultrasharp", they do mean that this time :)
But unfortunately, I see a problem. Colors near black and blue are getting distorted when they are displayed. Its sorta like what you get when you see an "infrared" enhanced image or something - difficult to explain. The pixels are getting lighted up in blue, with a gradient.

I've tried the Xtreme-G drivers as well, but the problem persists. Its pretty irritating since the screen shimmers when showing certain images.

Any clues as to what is happening?

    Regards,
    Vinod.

This has been reported by several other forum members as well. Some were fine with it while others had shipped back to be replace or returned it completely. I think it is the actuall screen hard problem and not any driver specific issue.

I bought my E1705 three weeks ago. It arrived with a defective lcd. Everything on the screen was redish. So I sent it back, they changed the lcd cable and returned it back.

I thought when they wrote the notebook is in the testing process, they actually meant it. :)

This doesn't seem like a hardware problem. I was tinkering around with the contrast settings and connecting an external monitor and suddenly I noticed that the problem had gone away!

But it came back today :(

I'm gonna try a BIOS upgrade now. Also wanted to install drivers for the 17" lcd, but the dell support site shows around 14 of them for this laptop :-|

Does anyone know which one to use?

There are no drivers for the attached LCD. The drivers you saw are for external monitors.

Still stuck with this problem :(

To give you guys an idea of the problem, check this out -
    http://www.sput.nl/hardware/display-test/lcd-test.html

In the first example image, the left 25% of the bars show as dark blue
In the second example image, the top 25% of the bars show as dark blue

    Any ideas?

Call Dell and request a replacement.
