Hey guys I have a question... my 1520 came with a 120Gig 7400 rpm drive. My drive died three days ago. Dell sent me a 160 Gig 5400 rpm as a replacement. I like the idea of having a bigger drive but will it run slower becaus its running at 5400 insted of 7400 rpm?

    TThanks

Seek times will be slower. And it should've been 7200 rpm....

Well atleast email them and try to hallge with them by saying u want compensation for sending a slower hdd etc and that they should send a 7200rpm one instead.

This is John, a support analyst at Dell headquarters.

Without looking at the case notes, I would have to guess that your drive wasn't in stock, and they ordered a larger, slower drive. In most instances, the difference between the 5400rpm and the 7200rpm drive wouldn't really be all that noticeable, but if it is something that concerns you, I would recommend doing what manzi suggested, and ask to have the drive replaced with a 7200rpm drive.

If you'd like me to do it, email me your case number, and I'd be happy to:
