I have a 1558 on its way and amfinding out quite a bit of issues with shutdown and heating on Studio 15.

I have not heard much on shutdown or heat issues with the 1458. So is 1458 not have these issues? Should I instead get 1458? I can live with the 720p screen if this will result in avoiding heating issues and shutdowns.

I've had a 1458 w/core i5 since Feb with no troubles at all regarding heat. Laptop has been great. The 720p screen is also nice for a 14" display imo.

No issues yet, ordered the 1558 from outlet and then ran into a number of threads on how heat is an issue as well the shutdown of the laptop due to issue with CPU temp sensing. I did not see any such threads for 1458 which is surprising as it is smaller and with same CPU should run even hotter.

Anyway from reading it seems that the issue is mainly with i-core plus integrated 1558 laptops. Mine has a discrete GC so maybe I am spared but since it is a refurbished unit I am concerned.

I just got delivered so I will be posting about it when I get home.

    OK just got some testing.
Used BurninTest v6.0 that stressed the CPU to 100% and I could see that on SpeedFan for that all 4 cores were @ 100%. CPU ran for almost 10 mins like that and max temp it went was 49C. Not sure if it was good or bad. The fan was running most of the time and also the base below the touchpad got quite warm but not hot. I am happy that laptop did not shutdown or anything. After the burning in test the CPU temps went to about 20-22C range within 20 secs.
