I'm running A7 BIOS on a 1555 (new to me this week, refurb unit). I've tried running the flash utility on my Studio many times and it always crashes almost instantly after launching. I get the utility with the "wait" window hovering over it then a Windows error message "Dell Computer Flash BIOS Upgrade has stopped working". The exception code is c0000005 which in my past experience points to a driver issue but I'm running all of the current Dell provided drivers for my system. I'm not running Quickset which oddly won't install on the 32bit version of Win 7 I'm currently running.

I've downloaded the exe several times on different systems. I've tried running it in Win 7 X64 (dell media and my upgrade media) and X86 as well as Vista X64 (sp1) and had identical experiences with each. The system passes memory testing (both Dell's and memtest) as well as IGP and CPU stress testing. current BIOS are set to default.

Is there a solution for this or something I'm overlooking?

EDIT: this happens with the A8 BIOS as well.

EDIT 2: Wow, very strange solution. I finally found the fix in Dell's forums. I had to remove a SO-DIMM to flash (My 1555 has 4GB (2x2)). Not sure why, but it did work.
